Langleydale Common 1 (March 2006)
sketchfab
Prehistoric carved boulder found on Langleydale Common near Hindon Edge, northeast of Eggleston, County Durham. Originally unearthed by Paul Brown in 1996, this carving is documented as reference number one in the Eggleston East section of Stan Beckensall and Tim Laurie's 1998 publication 'Prehistoric Rock Art of County Durham, Swaledale and Wensleydale'. NADRAP added the record to ERA in 2008, citing it as 'Langleydale Common 1'. The motifs on the stone vary depending on the archive consulted. NADRAP, the county's heritage registry, and Historic England record five or more cups, while Paul Brown estimates ten cups and Stan Beckensall suggests dozens of cups, some interconnected and set within grooves. ERA information is available online at https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/section/panel/overview.jsf?eraId=2009. Historic England's area scheduling can be viewed at https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1021116. A 3D model was created from five stereo pairs captured by Joe Gibson and Keith Elliott (NADRAP Team 3) in March 2006. The imagery forms part of the full NADRAP archive deposited with Historic England.
