Land Rover Wolf 110 WMIK (British Army) - experimental
thingiverse
This is a re-modelled LR Wolf 110 without doors, and with modifications to approximate the WMIK used by the British Army in recent operations. The model is built to a scale of 1:76. It's labelled as experimental because I'm still working on perfecting it. The model started from a file contributed to the SketchUp library by Matt Patt, who deserves credit for his work. However, I've made significant changes to make it more accurate - the basic LR is series III rather than Wolf. It's a challenging print due to the WMIK structure's complexity and difficulty in printing. I tried printing the complete structure with various degrees of strengthening, but it didn't turn out well because the material isn't strong enough when printed in layers. To overcome this issue, I broke down the model into sections, which was more successful as a print, but now I'm faced with the challenge of assembling them. If you have any recommendations for glue that's equivalent to poly glues used on Airfix kits and suitable for printing with this material, please let me know. The photos show my failed or partially successful attempts at printing the model, along with some of the weapons. Missing are the weapon mounts; I still need to work on that area. The basic Land Rover might be interesting in its own right. It's a separate model that you can use as is, and it has different seats, making it a bit better than my earlier attempts. Note the extra seat at the back - that's a characteristic of WMIKs. Take a look at the photos for more information. I've provided models of the FN MG and the grenade launcher in both raw and strengthened versions, which have all been printed and are shown in the photographs. I'm looking forward to seeing if this model is of any interest! The photo showing the proposed assembly without weapons uses a frame print that hasn't had all the supports removed - that's the main challenge. It's actually better than it looks, perhaps. As I learn more, I'll add more files to the collection. If you have any improvements or can print this model more easily, please feel free to share your work. I'll also update the wheels soon because the mounting hole didn't match the strengthened axles. This model was designed using SketchUp and 3D Builder, with iterations and checks made using MiniMagic to ensure accurate dimensions. Enjoy!
