Repair sections of the molding on Series I, II, and early IIA wire spoke steering wheels. This process was used on my own vehicle, which had been severely corroded. A number of images are attached to demonstrate the repair procedure. You may need to build up welds on the corroded steering frame to restore metal to its original thickness. I had to do this in two particularly bad areas. Use TIG welding with low heat input and cool down the remaining aluminum alloy slowly to prevent deterioration. The pictures don't show the time spent polishing and waxing the PLA molds, or finishing epoxy buildup on the junction with the spoke and hand-shaping the connection. Only use slow-curing epoxy resin; do not attempt to mix it with a hardener/epoxy combination that you're not familiar with (exothermic reaction). Mix your resin with light filler such as glass spheres, wood dust, or cotton fibers and pigment. If I had more time, I would have created a mold that integrated the wire spoke junction. However, even though one of my steering wheels was in bad condition, it was still repairable using this method. Please note that this is free information (I created it); some companies offer steering restoration services for a significant fee, but this method can be used to restore an expensive item at very little cost.
