By popular demand, I'm uploading the parts I designed for installing a modern LCD head unit in my Land Rover Discovery 2. This tray fits snugly into the centre cubby box and is specifically crafted to accommodate an iPhone X in a case, utilizing this style of magnetic connector: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07K7LYJ3Y/?th=1 The connector remains securely in place, while the phone stays put thanks to the magnetic connection. I've experienced no issues with the phone shifting or disconnecting. This tray consists of four separate parts due to limitations with my printer size, but it would be significantly stronger as a single part. Alternatively, you can CNC machine it if you have the necessary equipment; I often thought an anodized aluminium version would look fantastic. I utilized a DIY flocking kit to cover mine, and although it's not perfect for a first attempt, it's sufficient for now. A small patch of thin felt where the phone rests might be more effective, as it simply needs to prevent the phone from sliding around. There is room for improvement, so feel free to modify and share your results with me. This tray provides a tight fit in the cubby box of a Discovery 2 and will likely accommodate a 1995-onwards Discovery 1 as well, making it an excellent starting point for your own creation. I created a video showcasing this design along with other parts I designed to enable me to install an Alpine iLX-702D head unit in my Disco 2.
