This is my first project from scratch using the 3D printer. Just got the printer and still learning how it works. The item I created is a part of a six-foot floor lamp, and these clips tend to break easily, so I designed this new clip that can be printed on demand. The design is modified from the original one, since it's made for 3D printing instead of injection molding. I used SketchUp to create the model and then exported it as an .obj file before setting up the print settings in ReplicatorG. Print Settings Printer: CTC Makerbot clone with a V8 chipset and dual extruder Rafts: Yes Supports: Yes Resolution: Unknown Infill: 20% Notes: I'm not expecting you to download or print this. I just wanted to show that it's possible to design and print something within a few days of buying a new printer. These clips can add up to 10 years of life to these fittings, which makes them environmentally friendly in my opinion. The V4 has four clips together. The benefit of this is that the printer has to do four times as much work for each layer, giving each layer time to cool before the next one is added on top. This results in cleaner and less distorted items due to heat. How I Designed It General I used Google SketchUp to build a model of the actual item and then modified it to suit 3D printing. The goal was not perfection but rather creating something that works. It's meant to be a simple solution to the problem of broken clips.
