Lamp Base for Crinkle Lamp
thingiverse
This is my custom lamp base for the popular Crinkle Lamp (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:676350)\r\n\r\nI printed the lamp and realized it needed a base. It seemed like a challenge worth taking on.\r\n\r\nFor the LEDs, I had just finished adding a lot to my PC and under my desk. They were plentiful, so this project seemed like a great way to use them up. My soldering skills are still developing.\r\n\r\nThese are basic 5050 LEDs from Amazon. You can get a kit with a 16ft roll of them for less than $20. I found some individual leads at Home Depot in the bulk section that cost under $3. Then I broke out my old soldering kit.\r\n\r\nI did my soldering right on the base, but next time I'll choose a more heat-resistant surface. My printer's glass bed or a cookie sheet would be perfect for this task. After getting all the connections working, I hot glued everything in place.\r\n\r\nThe individual LEDs are visible through the shade, but it's an acceptable trade-off for not having to recess the LED bed and use supports.\r\n\r\nIf I were to do it again, I'd redesign the base with a cylindrical recess and arrange the LEDs around it. A 10mm deep recess would allow me to stand the LEDs upright and make just one connection - or maybe even none at all.
