Lalande Crater

Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter images are superimposed onto a 3D map of Lalande Crater using LOLA data combined with Apollo photos taken from an oblique angle. Over time, this will be refined further and done in greater detail, with the images replaced by accurate textures. A floating red polyhedron, measuring 20 meters across, is included to provide a sense of scale. The crater itself spans approximately 22 kilometers and is situated just south of the equator, near the Moon's center on the near side, on the edge of Oceanus Procellarum. This ancient impact site ranges in age from 2.2 to 2.8 billion years, classifying it as a relatively young crater. Lalande Crater is home to the first virtual colony of Moonwards.
