Lake Michigan Bathymetry Model
thingiverse
This project was initiated at the request of a friend, and all data originates from NOAA/National Centers for Environmental Information. Specifically, it comes from http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/greatlakes/michigan.html. As the information is freely available online, this model is considered public domain, requiring only attribution to NOAA as the source of the data. The initial point cloud contained approximately 22 million data points, making it a significant challenge to process on my computer. However, the resulting model is incredibly detailed, with the northern islands of the lake clearly visible. When printed in multi-color, the level of detail becomes even more pronounced. To achieve multi-color prints, you can use a printer that supports this feature, such as the M600 GCdr printer. If you experience any issues with this file, please let me know so I can investigate and potentially resolve the problem. Print Settings: Printer: Original Prusa i3 Rafts: Yes Supports: No Resolution: 0.2mm Infill: 20 Notes: I encountered difficulties printing this model using Simplify 3d but Cura successfully sliced it without issues. If you manage to print this model cleanly on a Prusa i3 using Simplify 3D, please share your settings with me. To achieve multi-color prints, I manually injected filament change commands into the GCode files. When printing the top layers, proceed slowly as I experienced problems with the layers peeling away if the speed was too high.
