Redwood National Forest's Ladybird Johnson Grove is home to a majestic tree that narrowly escaped the chainsaw in a dramatic turn of events. The diagonal cut at the bottom right had just begun when the President's wife intervened, demanding they cease operations. The cut started 6 feet above the ground, but thanks to her timely intervention, the tree was spared and the grove was named in her honor - a fitting tribute to the bold environmental activist she was.
