Marilyn was born in England at a military hospital in Tidworth, Wiltshire. Her mother hailed from Malta while her English father served in the British Army, causing Marilyn to spend her formative years moving around Germany and the UK. Following school in Staffordshire, Marilyn pursued training to become an art teacher. She landed her first teaching position as an art instructor at a school in Leamington Spa before relocating to Nottingham where she continued teaching. Entrepreneurial pursuits When her daughter Katie was born, Marilyn embarked on painting and designing greeting cards which she began selling at craft fairs, later expanding her business via trade sales through her own small company called 'Paper Kite'.
