Lady of Brussels - Statue of lady standing

The Statue of Lady Standing (Lady of Brussels), a stunning work from the protodynastic era of around 2650 BC, is now showcased in its entirety thanks to RealityCapture. This remarkable woman statue, often referred to as the Lady of Brussels, holds a unique position as one of the oldest and most exceptional testimonies of private stone sculpture in Egypt. The archaic treatment of her forms, particularly the absence of a neck, provides strong evidence that this statue dates back to the end of the 2nd dynasty. The lady is depicted wearing a heavy, finely woven wig and a long, low-cut dress that skillfully reveals the contours of her body. Despite its unknown origin, it is believed to be a funerary statue from a necropolis in Saqqara, possibly even the capital's own burial ground. What stands out about this elite woman is that she is presented alone, without her husband by her side, which is a surprising aspect of this ancient sculpture.
