Labyrinths

It's a timeless spiritual tool that has been around for thousands of years. This archetype appears across many cultures. It originates from sacred geometry in nature - the spiral, the circle, the double helix. There are numerous labyrinth designs. These include Classical, Medieval and contemporary styles. The Essence 7-circuit labyrinth is based on the Chartres Cathedral Labyrinth built around 1200 AD. Chartres features 11 circuits and lunations (lunations are the outer cusps and foils surrounding the Chartres style 11 circuit Medieval labyrinth with 28 per quadrant. It's not a maze, which confuses and challenges with tricks, confusions, and dead ends. A maze is designed to make you lose your way - in contrast, a labyrinth helps you find your path. The path is circuitous - one way into the center and the same way out. It's meant to calm and quiet the mind. It's a tool for meditation. I've included designs for an 11-circuit Chartres (without lunations due to space constraints), a 7-circuit, a mirrored 2-handed labyrinth on a single base as well as a larger mirrored 2-handed double on 2 separate bases. The latter can be used individually or in tandem - if used together, I've provided a connecting pin for side-by-side use by one person or back-to-back use for two individuals. My gratitude goes to Leslie at Centre Street Labyrinths in Stratford, ON for the inspiration and information shared, as well as the Stratford Public Library MakerSpace for their assistance and printing of several copies for different patrons.
