Laboratory Mouse
myminifactory
This model draws inspiration from Andrew Kharkevich's Monument to the laboratory mouse sculpture, which stands proudly in a park outside the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The monument honors the contributions made by mice in genetic research with their ultimate sacrifice. I successfully printed my version using a clever technique that splits the print process into manageable sections. To achieve this look, I opted for 15% infill only on the base, reserving zero infill and no supports for the rest of the model. Printing at standard size should cause the glasses to fit neatly in place, but printing them separately is definitely recommended for a more polished result. The "knitting needles" are actually simple pieces of filament inserted into the hands for added detail. I also took it upon myself to cut out a hole in the base after completing the print, which allowed me to insert an LED light as a fun bonus idea – and it works surprisingly well!
