LABO VR to VIVE Lens adapter

LABO VR to VIVE Lens adapter

This is an experimental adapter designed specifically for fitting the Nintendo LABO VR lenses onto the HTC Vive. The idea behind this adapter is similar to the GearVR lens adapter, which I thought would be interesting to see replicated with the Labo lenses. The Nintendo LABO VR lenses boast a fine Fresnel design akin to that of the Oculus Go. They provide a clear and focused view from edge to edge, yet still suffer from "god rays" in high contrast areas, much like the Vive lenses do. However, the LABO lenses are larger than the Vive lenses and significantly bigger than the GearVR lenses, ensuring there's no reduction in field of view. After conducting a quick test, I can confidently say they outperform the Vive OEM lenses (if the distortion profile were better), but I don't think I'll replace my GearVR lens mod with them. Installation: Proceed at your own risk! Removing the Labo lenses from their Nintendo lens frame was relatively straightforward - simply push them out from the backside, pressing near the edge and slightly twisting the frame. This required some force as the lenses are glued to the frame. I managed to chip one lens's edge slightly. Some glue remained stuck to the lenses' edges, which needed to be peeled and scraped off in several places (that is the glue in the picture where the knife is pointing, not a plastic tab). I didn't attempt any solvent, but it's possible alcohol would help (do not use acetone as it will ruin the lenses). Once cleaned up, the Labo lenses can be pressed into the Vive lens adapter (rough side down) with some thumb pressure. It holds them pretty securely. Check Sweviver's YouTube video or others for more detail on removing the Vive lenses and updating the distortion profile. The lens distortion profile stored in the Vive must be edited to use these lenses. They are very different from the Vive (and GearVR) lenses, and the view is severely warped without editing. Instructions on how to do this can be found here, but the profiles for the GearVR lenses will not work. Don't forget to download and backup the OEM profile from your Vive before editing anything! I created a quick distortion profile here (for the Vive, not Vive Pro). It's far from perfect but will get you most of the way there if anyone wants to try fine-tuning it using sencercoltu's tool.
