La torera
sketchfab
The bronze sculpture is the work of Mauro Álvarez Fernández and was created in 2002. The statue, made in realistic style and life-size, honors Josefa Carril, a well-known photographer who lived in Oviedo with her husband Antonio Hernández and worked together photographing the bourgeoisie of the time at this park, where the monument is now located. The sculptural ensemble consists of Josefa (who smiles, and one of her arms inserts into the black sleeve by which she manipulated in the mini-laboratory), alongside her photographic camera (known as a "minutera" camera) and tripod (from which hangs a water cube), a chair and a pony (which refers to the cardboard pony that served her to keep children distracted when taking their portrait). The name "torera" comes from the type of shoe she always wore, called "manoletinas".
