La Specialista DeLonghi Tray with sink outlet

The DeLonghi La Specialista is an exceptional espresso machine that my wife and I adore, check out our review on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/DeLonghi-EC9335M-Specialista-Americano-Stainless/dp/B07QMWZ6PT. However, one drawback is that the tray tends to fill up quickly and requires frequent emptying and cleaning, especially for heavy coffee drinkers like ourselves. To address this issue, I designed a custom replacement tray that allows water to drain directly into the sink. The key components of this design include a specialized tubing (available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D9DK94V) that attaches to the tray and directs all the water towards an outlet. In addition to the tubing, you'll also need a magnet to ensure the machine detects the tray in its proper position. I recommend using a 10 or 12mm magnet (available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MV2MKD5), which can be secured with silicone adhesive (I used it instead of glue). To assemble the replacement tray, you'll need to weld both pieces together using a soldering iron. If you prefer a more flexible approach, superglue is also an option; just make sure there are no gaps in the joint. For added stability, consider using a thicker glue specifically designed for PLA materials. Future enhancements to this design could involve implementing a mechanism that prevents coffee production until the tray is emptied. This might be achieved by designing a system where the magnet moves out of position when the tray reaches a certain water level. I'm not entirely sure how to implement this idea, but it could potentially involve translating upward z-axis movement into y-axis movement of the magnet.
