La Providence at the Louvre, Paris, France
myminifactory
This statue has been a part of the Louvre's Antiques section since the museum opened its doors, but it wasn't showcased until after the First Empire when it was known as 'Providence'. By placing a globe in his left hand, the modern restorer has transformed the sculpture into an Urania, a muse of astronomy. The nose, mouth, neck, arms and feet are all modern modifications to the original sculpture. This object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit project initiated by MyMiniFactory that aims to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from around the world for public access at no cost. Scan The World is an open source community effort where anyone with interesting items can contribute by emailing stw@myminifactory.com to learn how they can help.
