Osvaldo Cavandoli, also known by his pen name Cava, was an Italian cartoonist. His most famous work is the series of short animated cartoons, La Linea ("The Line"). Born in Maderno sul Garda, Italy, but raised in Milan after just two years old (eventually earning honorary citizenship in that city), Cavandoli worked as a technical designer at Alfa Romeo from 1936 to 1940. By 1943, he discovered his passion for cartoons and started working with Nino Pagot, who later created Calimero. In 1950, he launched an independent career as both director and producer. La Linea ("The Line") was created by Cavandoli, a simple cartoon born and lived from just one white pencil stroke. La Linea received worldwide recognition in 1969 after Massimo Lagostina selected it as a testimonial for his cookware company's advertising campaign, initially appearing on the popular Italian television show Carosello from 1957 to 1977. With its massive success, the animated series was subsequently adopted by many European countries.
