LA HOUGUE DES GÉONNAIS This ancient Neolithic passage grave was constructed approximately 6,000 years ago within the timeframe of 4000-3250BC. It features a passageway leading into an unusual chamber that originally took on a 'D' shape but later underwent significant alterations to form a large open rectangular space. The site first underwent excavation in 1929 and received further investigation between 1985 and 1990. Prior to this, the monument had suffered severe damage at the hands of quarrymen who removed many of its stones. Excavation efforts successfully pinpointed the positions of these displaced stones, which have since been replaced with granite blocks. Archaeological discoveries from the site include a substantial collection of flint tools, fragments of decorated pottery, and broken querns.
