La Giralda stands proudly as the iconic bell tower of Seville Cathedral in southern Spain's Andalucía region. This majestic structure was originally a minaret built during the Moorish occupation of Spain, dating back to the 12th century. The minaret itself was constructed under the rule of the Moroccan Almohad dynasty, completed in 1198. To celebrate his triumph at the Battle of Alarcos, Sultan Abu Yusuf Yaqub Al-Mansur added four gleaming golden spheres to the tower's summit. Following the Christian reconquest of Seville in 1248, the mosque was razed and replaced with a grand cathedral - still the world's largest. Miraculously, the minaret was spared and repurposed as a bell tower. Today, La Giralda is a sought-after tourist attraction, offering breathtaking vistas of Seville to visitors who dare to climb its lofty heights.
