Monument 1 from Casablanca, Suchitepéquez Guatemala. This pre-Columbian sculpture features a character seated within a niche, likely dating back to the Middle Formative period. It is part of a genre of sculptures widely disseminated along the Pacific Coast, with examples found at Izapa, Los Cerritos Norte and other sites. Locally known as "La Catarina." Special thanks to Héctor Mejía for showing me this site in March 2019, during our visit together with Gilberto Cruz.
