L79 Chevrolet Gen I Small Block 327
thingiverse
I undertook the project of developing a very detailed model of the 1964 Chevrolet L79 327 engine, complete with literally all internal and external components and fully capable of automation. I also had problems finding a decent Holley carburetor model over the years, so I put extra effort into detailing the Holley 4160 carburetor used on this engine. It is full scale and uses original and correct part number markings where I could find them. Even the camshaft specifications are correct. Counting the hardware items and bearings, there are over 1000 parts and I boxed them all up in a kit, along with an old SBC assembly manual and sealed it for future opening. I printed a second copy of the parts and assembled the engine and placed it in a 12 inch x 12 inch x 12 inch acrylic display case and have it on my desk. The plan is for some time way in the future, a grandchild or great grandchild will show an interest in the displayed model and ask questions about how these ancient engines from way back in the 1960's worked, That's when I'm hoping the sealed box with all the printed components and the assembly manual will be brought out of storage and given to the child to assemble and learn about how things worked way back in the old days!
