The L16 81mm mortar stands as the standard issue for the UK's military, having its roots in joint design collaboration between Britain and Canada. The Aussie version takes on a different name: F2 81mm Mortar, whereas the Yanks call their rendition M252. Debuting back in '65 or '66, this particular type of mortar stepped up to take over duties previously held by the ML 3 inch Ordnance Mortar in UK service. You can spot it getting utilized within military operations across various British branches – Army, Royal Marines, and even RAF Regiment forces. Inside armoured/mech infantry battalions operating from UK grounds, a FV 432 Armoured Fighting Vehicle (each containing six pieces for battalion mortar platoon duty) becomes home base for these lethal launchers. When traveling light with the help of British army role infantry squadrons or Royal Marine crews aboard their newer model transporters like BvS 10 vehicles, the process goes much more efficiently and discreetly as these weapons aren't transported fully assembled at all. When troops require full use on the move without any equipment constraints – usually under very tight operational schedules indeed. This would often lead each squad member bringing only two greenie- wrapped bomb packages made of tough yet easy to grip plastics; four complete round packs held together with tie downs inside for an almost completely hands-free firing arrangement system!
