L.O.V.E. Dito Cattelan - Stock Exchange Milano
thingiverse
This highly debated artwork is situated in Milan, directly opposite the Borsa di Milano. It stands 11 meters tall as pure Carrara marble, with a real sculpture measuring 4.60 meters and a base spanning 6.40 meters. The work depicts a hand raised in the Roman salute, yet its fingers are severed, giving the impression that time has eroded them. Only the index finger remains upright, intentionally subverting its original meaning. The artwork is positioned in the middle of Piazza degli Affari, directly in front of the Palazzo Mezzanotte, which was constructed between 1927 and 1932 during the Fascist period. The building's style unmistakably reflects this era. Cattelan's work serves as both a critique of the structure beneath it and an irreverent gesture towards what it represents today: the globalized world of finance, characterized as stateless and metaphorical of a new form of fascism. Lastly, it's remarkably simple to reproduce. You can create it on any scale without requiring support.
