The bronze statue, standing at scale 1/1, depicts an enslaved black man in anguish. Created by Jean François Etcheto between 1853 and 1889, the work is a powerful tribute to human suffering. A commemorative plaque marks May 10th as National Commemoration Day for the Abolition of Slavery, unveiled on that same day in 2010. Located within Pau's Beaumont Park, the statue stands as a poignant reminder of our collective history.
