L-Band Helical Antenna 12 Turns (RCHP)
thingiverse
I am excited to present my upgraded helical antenna design. This new version builds upon the successful 8-turn helical antenna that I previously designed. To create this improved model, I used a sturdy 10x10mm aluminum tube as its base. The innovative helical mounting arms were created using 3D printing technology. For ease of installation, the antenna mount remains identical to its predecessor. In August 2018, I engineered a brand-new antenna mount that allows for secure attachment of the helix to a photo tripod using a standard 1/4" nut. To achieve optimal matching, I also developed a simple clamp that carefully aligns the first 1/4 turn of the helix with the reflector's parallel axis. During thorough testing at the Inmarsat C EGC channel frequency, my new antenna exhibited impressive VSWR results: 1:1.255 at 1541.5 MHz and an exceptionally low VSWR of 1:1.161 at 1546 MHz. The fresh parts used in this project are readily available for download here. Those interested can learn more about the Helix Reworked: Neue L-Band Helix 12-Windungen Für Inmarsat Empfang project by visiting my blog, which provides a detailed explanation of its intricacies and nuances. To successfully replicate this helical antenna, please follow these clear instructions: 1. Print 23 helical mounts to secure the helix. 2. Produce one boom mount and one boom end cap for stability. 3. Create an additional antenna mount using the same materials as before. 4. Employ a sturdy 10x10mm aluminum tube for structural support. 5. Secure M3 nuts and bolts onto the reflector for attachment of the matching clamps. 6. Utilize a thin sheet of 0.8mm aluminum to craft the reflector's large, 140mm diameter. 7. Wind 2.7mm diameter copper wire (without any shielding) into the precise shape required. 8. Use one standard 1/4" nut for secure mounting of the antenna onto a camera tripod. 9. Good luck with your endeavor!
