L'Amitié (Friendship) at The Louvre, Paris
cults3d
This towering marble masterpiece of a woman was crafted by Cristoforo Sati (1556-1619) in Rome's vibrant artistic scene, culminating in 1619 as his final creation before passing away. Initially placed in the opulent Mattei Villa in Rome, it eventually found a new home in the esteemed permanent collection at the Louvre Museum in Paris. The sculpture, aptly titled 'L'Amitié' (Friendship), showcases a breathtaking nude female figure with her left hand pressed against her breast. Extensive studies have delved into her form from a psychological perspective, revealing that her left hand raised to her breast can be interpreted as both an expression of heartfelt friendship and an act of submission. As she gazes downward, elevated on a plinth for the viewer's benefit, her fingers appear to expose a wound where her heart would be.
