Note - Photos were taken before design was finalized, included models are improved from protoypes. V2 UPDATE: Just including the large size now as the small isn't neccessary, added a smooth end to the cord so it slides in better, and modifided both parts so their connection point is stronger. # Kyosho Zip Starter MB-63 Modern Replacement Part - I acquired this vintage Kyosho Datsun Stepside recently, and while I don't plan to run it often, I would still like to use it. Unfortunately, it didn't come with it's most important tool: a pull starter. Almost every Kyosho model from the early 80's used a zip starter cataloged in manuals as "MB-63," but 40 years later they're almost impossible to track down nowadays. And even though I'm not a professional in 3d modelling, I was able to recreate a worthy replacement just out of dimensions taken from the pinion gear it engages with. Works great in this Datsun, so I assume it should do just as well in any other similarly aged vehicle that used a Zip Starter. # Printing and Assembly: - Cord is too large to be printed horizontally or vertically on a standard Ender 3 bed, so if neccessary re-orient the part diagonally to fit a bed of similar size. - Print Handle in PETG and cord in TPU. (I originally designed the cord to be printed in PETG but found it would start to crack after around 20 pulls, so TPU is a must to allow for enough flexibility. - Use a minimum of 3 passes for the cord's wall thickness, (I used Cura's standard layer line height for both parts.) - Slot cord into handle, and optionally glue the parts together with superglue. They should hold together well enough to not need glue though. - Enjoy! # Don't Have a Printer? - In case you need this and don't have a printer, I'm now selling these pre-made on eBay! Just look up "Kyosho Zip Starter" in eBay's searchbar, it should come up as the first result seeing as these are usually so hard to come by.
