Kyle Katarn Lightsaber Hilt
thingiverse
Kyle Katarn's lightsaber hilt from Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast (so many sub-titles). I used this project to learn about modeling things for 3d printing as well as practicing combining multiple objects together and manually cleaning up geometry. It was moderately successful I think. Done mostly with destructive(?) modeling, mainly loop cuts, insets, extrusions, bevels and manual movement of vertices. The main modifiers I used were booleans and mirrors. Once the modeling was done I separated the hilt in to 3 sections that slot in to each other. My thought was to split it in to pieces that would be small enough to be printed in smaller printers then slotted/glued together. Image#1 Main Reference image. Image#2 Extra Reference Image#3 Not actually the final, I made a few tiny alterations/corrections for issues I hadn't noticed after this. This image shows the various stages of building in a somewhat organized manner. Note the fat one that was a result of not properly cropping my reference image. Image#4 I dont know a lot about 3d printing so I made STLs with the pieces individually as well as all 3 pieces together in one file Image#5 Actual Final Image#6 Triangulated Mesh. A few messy spots and a few spots that could have used more (or fewer) loop cuts.
