Kydex Standoff Jig

Kydex Standoff Jig

This jig allows you to create a standoff to attach to your Kydex knife sheath. This way you can get the belt clip centered rather than screwing it onto the rivets on the sides. This design was inspired by Jeremy from the Simple Little Life YouTube channel. See the link below for the YouTube video that this design was taken from. I highly recommend his channel if you are at all interested in knife making: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKC7G37rVvA I made some slight modifications to it to make aligning the Kydex a tad easier. There is kind of a lip on the "female" side that aligns with a recessed area on the "male" side. When you pull the Kydex strip off the heat, you can slide one of the sides up against the lip to quickly ensure you're aligned correctly before pressing in a vise. Be sure not to overtighten your vise as it can crack. You don't need a ton of pressure if you have heated your Kydex properly. Just tighten it until you can see the Kydex conforming to the curves of the mold. I have made several of them and have had no issues with cracking. I also created a slightly wider model that can be used if you find the other one too small for your particular application. I used PETG rather than PLA since it is more heat resistant. It has shown now signs of deforming. It's possible PLA will work, but I haven't tried it yet.
