I had a problem rekeying my Kwikset Smartkey lock and thought I had ruined it. Luckily, someone on YouTube explained how to reset it when you don't have the key: https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=aQjXl78DdUA Unfortunately, when I got to the part where I had to use a screwdriver to push all five wafers down (at 1:20 in the video), it didn't work. Every time I pressed one down, the others would pop up. Good thing I have a 3D printer, though. This is basically five tiny screwdrivers that press down simultaneously. It fits perfectly into the holes where the wafers stick out. Press it into those five holes, and you should be able to easily remove the plug from its outer casing without any hassle. Nothing special was needed; I printed it in PLA and it worked right away.
