Got a bunch of empty Kusmi Tea tins? Hang them on the wall and use them for storing and organizing your scarves! Make the rings match the colors of the tins or make them stand out - it's all up to you. A sturdier version is available here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3012991 Print Settings Printer: Supports: Doesn't Matter Notes: Print on any setting. Printed in PLA. Post-Printing Extra items needed Kusmi tins! Go for the 250g ones if you want it to be able to hold a scarf. Make sure the tins are 'new' as the 'old' tins with the labels have a 'ridge' near the top and will not fit through the rings! Get some Ø 6mm nuts and bolts. The ones I've used are 20mm long, however 10mm is enough (but they didn't have any shorter and I didn't care to go to another store). I also got some washer so I didn't have to print spacers to go between layer one and three (where only two rings intersect). I also used them where layer two and three intersected without layer one, to ensure the bolts had the same distance from the wall (flush). 6mm nuts and bolts (and optional washers) Assembly When you've printed the rings, get your nuts and bolts out. If you have not bought washers you may want to print some 1.5mm spacers. Below I will refer to the 'smooth side' this is the one where the ring is flat (as opposed to the side, where there is an indentation to fit another loop). The smooth side will be the one touching the print plate. Step 1: Lay out the rings loosely to form the shape you want. Step 2: Split the rings into three layers; no ring must touch a ring from the same layer. Layer one (natural and green in my pictures): Smooth side up. Layer two (pink in my pictures): Smooth side up. Layer three (blue in my pictures): Smooth side up. Step 3: Connect the rings using bolts and nuts. Step 4: Slide the empty Kusmi Tins through the rings so the bottom of the tin touches the ring (or is level with the bolts). Step 5: Attach the net to the wall using spacers. Add scarves for decoration If you want to expand the net later, either take the net down or make the addition 'on wall'. Simply unscrew any connecting nuts/bolts and add bolts, nuts and spacers where needed. I've added some extra rings from the start. As my net is only attached at the top I am able to make enough distance between the wall and the back of the rings that I can slide extra tins into the rings. How I Designed This Thoughts and design To get my Kusmi tins on the wall I had a number of different ideas, after a few failed attempts I thought of using my 3D printer. Each tin slides into a ring and the rings then have to be connected. This makes it modular and expandable. To connect the rings I made loops where a bolt can fit through and be fastened with a nut. I've found that a print is fairly sturdy when 3mm thick, so this was the thickness I went for for the rings, to make sure they stay ring-shaped and do not break. I also know that even a 1mm print, though flexible is also durable. To not make the construction too bulky I opted to make the connector loops half the thickness of the rings (1.5mm). The holes in the loops are 7mm. I did try to come up with a printable solution for the nut and bolt, but it seemed too much of a hassle to print actual nuts and bolts which are easy to buy.
