The Bosnians built this medieval fortress during the early 16th century at the confluence of Norin's river, where it flows into the Neretva. Strategically located, the fortification served the Bosnia and Herzegovina region for protection against Venetian attacks from then until the Turkish troops departed in 1685 after a fierce battle. Following their exit, various powers held the Tower; initially it was occupied by Austrian forces before French occupation took place afterward. By 1918 the strategic location of the Neretva River began losing importance when Austria controlled it under lower jurisdiction as its influence diminished across European history throughout time periods and wars fought on the land. During that era the ancient structure had become a part-time working mill thanks to a mechanical contraption powered by wind until the state designated this location to preserve its rich history under protective monuments acts after becoming outdated within changing political scenes where once the Austrians now hold only a shadowy form while France took a dominant stand during centuries past but remains dormant ever since leaving Bosnia as it stood throughout these times as Bosnia, now known for holding valuable ancient histories that attract curious minds wanting to know how this great historical landmark played a role in making world-changing moments throughout all the passing decades and centuries of turbulent past times as we find ourselves today amidst global transformations occurring rapidly every year, which is precisely what brings everyone closer.
