Kristijonas Donelaitis was a Prussian-Lithuanian Lutheran pastor and poet who flourished from 1714 to 1780. He spent his entire life and career in Lithuania Minor, a region within the Kingdom of Prussia that boasted a substantial population of ethnic Lithuanians. Donelaitis penned the first epic poem written entirely in the Lithuanian language, The Seasons, which would go on to become a cornerstone of Lithuanian poetry. This masterpiece of Lithuanian literature vividly portrays the daily lives of Lithuanian peasants as they grappled with serfdom and navigated the cycles of nature throughout the year.
