KRANAI ISLAND
sketchfab
Southeast of the town of Gytheion lies a lush islet called Kranai in southern Peloponnese near Evrotas River's estuary, west of Laconian Gulf's bay. In Homer's epic poems, Kranai was Paris and Helen's first secret hideaway after her capture by Menelaus. Here, Paris abandoned his helmet, earning the island its name "Kranai". Today, Tzanetakis Grigorakis' traditional tower from 1829 dominates Kranai, housing Mani's Historical and Ethnological Museum. A small lighthouse stands on the islet, 23 meters high and crafted from Tainaro marble in 1873.
