Kouros at The British Museum, London
myminifactory
Despite its earlier date, the modelling of this kouros exhibits a softer quality compared to others from its time period. Instead of serving as an overt grave marker like many other Greek kouroi, this figure was discovered in the subterranean entrance way of a tomb and is believed to have been intended as a guardian figure. Very few marble statues were imported to Cyprus during this era, making this the sole example of a Greek kouros known to date from 510-500 BC.
