Kossel Mechanical + Magnetic Ball joint effector and carriage
thingiverse
I don't think I'm the only one who's experienced a "flying" magnetic effector. I've scoured the web for solutions and all I found were comments on the strength of the magnet. To mitigate the issue, I added a "safety belt" similar to this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RM1ytIyH6BQ, but it only reduced the severity of the disaster. I believe it can be completely avoided if the magnet's strength surpasses that of the stepper motor. However, this may then drastically shorten the magnet's lifespan due to friction. Therefore, I designed a combination of mechanical and magnetic ball joint. You must press it firmly for it to hold the arms securely, even without magnets. Adding magnets turns it into a zero-backlash mechanism. With this structure, the effector will not "fly away" and the magnet's requirements are significantly reduced. This was my first design using FreeCAD.
