Konica Minolta iPhone dock for Toyota Prius

First step was to define an optimal placement for the iPhone. Using the reverse engineered data supplied by Konica Minolta 3D Scanning Labs, the iPhone model was placed in the driver’s line of sight in a position that is not obstructed by the steering wheel and does not obstruct road view. It was also aligned with the driver’s right shoulder and in comfortable reach of his/hers right hand. Having defined the iPhone position, I found that some existing surfaces of the dashboard could be used as reference for the iPhone dock form. The dock is designed as an extension of existing surfaces on the dashboard. If the colour and texture of the referenced portion of the dashboard is used, the dock will be fully integrated in the original Toyota Prius dashboard. To maximize this effect, the iPhone connector is hidden inside the dock, and the cable discretely links to the rear side. The bottom side is coincident with the dashboard surface, the dock is a one piece hollow part, intentionally designed for 3D printing.
