Hiraga's concepts boasted an intensely fortified citadel, shielded by robust defenses that would soon become standard on the actual Yamatos. Armor plating cross-sections displayed striking similarities to those later adopted, with thicknesses already reaching impressive heights (some measuring a staggering 15 inches/380mm). However, these designs retained Hiraga's signature long and exposed bow and stern sections, as well as outdated casemate-style secondary armaments awkwardly mixed with turrets. The 30,000-ton version boasted three triple 35.6cm guns.
