The Kongehoej or Voldstedlund monument is a massive megalithic long barrow that towers over the surrounding landscape, its 62 imposing kerbstones forming a powerful framework. Constructed around 3,200 BC, this Neolithic marvel measures 52 meters in length, 22 meters in width, and a staggering 3 meters high. The two short-sided gables are dominated by enormous kerbstones that reach heights of up to 2.75 meters, a true testament to the ingenuity of ancient architects. Hidden within the barrow's imposing structure lie two passage graves, expertly crafted from seven and eight ortostats respectively. The eastern chamber measures 3.5x3 meters in dimension, standing at an impressive 1.9 meters high, while its counterpart to the west is slightly smaller at 3x3 meters, yet still reaches a respectable 1.65 meters in height. A narrow passage of four sets of ortostats connects each chamber to the surrounding kerb, adding to the overall sense of mystery and grandeur that surrounds this ancient wonder. The Kongehoej or Voldstedlund monument is not only an important historical site but also a protected treasure under Heritage Law, making it accessible to the public for all to marvel at. Located at 56°38'49.00"N and 9°55'19.97"E as pinpointed on Google Earth, this magnificent monument invites exploration and discovery. A staggering 396 images were captured using an Olympus E500 camera, expertly processed with PhotoModelerPremium software to provide a comprehensive visual record of this incredible site.
