Komainu water fountain (temizuya) in Shrine
sketchfab
Worshippers purify themselves in Shinto water ablution pavilions known as chōzuya or temizuya before approaching shrines for ceremonial purification rites called temizu. Clear water fills stone basins, and worshippers wash their hands, mouth, and ladle handle using wooden dippers provided. This symbolic purification is a normal practice at manned shrines, Buddhist temples, and some new religious houses of worship before worshiping. At the Inner Shrine in Ise, traditional spring or seashore ablutions are still used by devotees.
