Human Reconstruction of Kom W (Fayum, Egypt), a site occupied during the middle Holocene period, is recreated from previously published section drawings by Gertrude Caton-Thompson and Elinor Gardner in the 1930s. The researchers worked in Fayum during the 1920s. Looting and modern developments have destroyed parts of the area, making previous data even more valuable. This surface reconstruction before excavation in the 1920s highlights a new interpretation about the formation of archaeological deposits at Kom W. Excavation is itself a destructive process. Note that the vertical scale has been exaggerated for clarity. Data, method, and interpretation are found in Emmitt et al.'s publication: Reimag(in)ing the Past: Adding the Third Dimension to Archaeological Section Drawings. This research was published in Advances in Archaeological Practice 5(1): 44-53. The DOI is 10.1017/aap.2016.5
