Sloping gently westward, Portlock community thrives within Hawaii Kai. Kokoa Head (a towering 642 ft or 196 m) is an ancient tuff cone overshadowed by its mighty neighbor, Kokoa Crater, whose peak, Kohelepelepe (or Puu Mai), soars to 1208 ft or 368 m. Three significant depressions mark Kokoa Head's landscape, with the largest one creating the famous Hanauma Bay. Kokoa Head last erupted a staggering 30,000–35,000 years ago.
