Kokeshi Dolls

These dolls aim to mirror their Japanese wooden counterparts with precision. In Japan, skilled craftsmen create these dolls using traditional techniques passed down through generations. They carefully place the wood on a potter's wheel and meticulously shave it down into shape with specialized tools. As I grew up, I recall admiring similar dolls at my grandmother's home. They were often displayed during special occasions like Children's Day, adding to their charm. Inspired by this nostalgia, I designed these dolls as a way to share Japanese culture with others while infusing it with modern flair. To bring these dolls to life, simply print them and then adorn them with vibrant designs. Popular motifs include intricate floral patterns and geometric shapes that add an extra layer of depth. Thanks to their solid construction, these dolls can be easily scaled up or down without compromising their integrity. However, the top-heavy kokeshi may require additional weights inside as it's printed to maintain its balance and keep it upright.
