From the outside this looks like my first submission but I made some important changes to the mechanism. Based on the volume produced each year i have evaluated the design and chosen to use a rapid prototype SLS material that is Carbon Filled Nylon12(nytek12CF) from SolidConcepts. The density of this material is 1/2 that of Carbon fiber(0.036lb/in^3) in most cases so this entire design is 35grams for both pieces(not including the screw and hinge pin). Quoted price for 40 units is under $7000 with a very quick turn around time. This material has a black appearance so no finish work is required but hand finishing and painting can be done.
