Kodanda Rama is always represented as a royal personage of bewitching beauty, well developed body, having broad eyes, long arms, curly tresses, and auspicious marks. Sharanga is the celestial bow of the Hindu god Vishnu. In South India, the Sharanga is also simply known as the Kodanda, literally meaning bow. Vishnu's avatar Rama is often praised as Kodandapani, the holder of the Kodanda. The sculpture is inspired by the Kakatiya and Chola style of sculpting with elements of Hoysala style and Belur-Halebid styles depicted in the Kerala wood carving tradition. Lord Rama is richly ornamented indicating the time of his coronation in Ayodhya after the defeat of Asura king Ravana.
