Kobalt 40v battery to Greenworks tool adapter
thingiverse
This print, displayed in gray/silver, allows users to utilize a 40-volt Kobalt battery from Lowes Home Improvement store with a 40-volt Greenworks tool, but only tools that carry batteries externally will work. The writer's Greenworks blower functions and appears as though string trimmers and hedge trimmers will also work. However, lawnmowers and chainsaws do not appear to be compatible based on photos viewed online because they partially enclose the battery and the Kobalt battery is wider than the Greenworks battery. The main unit is designed to slide into the tool and remain secure with a tight fit while the battery can be freely attached and detached by sliding it into the main unit. The battery makes an automatic electrical connection when slid onto spade connectors that are glued in place. A caveat is that the slot for the battery lock, which keeps the battery secure, requires a flat screwdriver to lever the battery out for charging. After printing the main unit, users must also figure out how to make the electrical connection. The main unit has a slotted hole where 10/12 AWG spade connectors can be inserted, with their yellow jackets removed. Users must insert the blades into the slotted holes and give them a 90-degree twist so that the non-centered blades sit outside the center line of the holes. This allows the Kobalt battery to slide in and make the electrical connection. After assembly with the battery connected, users may want to use epoxy to lock the blades in place. For the tool side, the main unit does not have a dedicated electrical connection scheme. If users choose to connect as described, they can print the second unit, shown in dark blue/green, which features a small U-shaped bracket that holds blade clamps salvaged from a North American wall plug. This separate unit is attached to the tool after wiring has been added to screw terminals, and the connection is completed by soldering on blade connectors. This process may be a bit fiddly but only needs to be done once since the main unit stays on the tool. Suggestions for improvement are welcome!
