Knurled Screw-Top Container II - Even More Customizable
thingiverse
I really loved M_D_K's original design, and had already printed a few different versions of it for myself, but I wasn't quite satisfied with the level of customization available to me. At the same time, I've been looking for the opportunity to learn how to create and edit OpenSCAD files, so I thought this would be a great first project. The biggest customization options that I really wanted were: Ring thickness and height Adding headspace in the cap (to be able to grab things out from the top without pouring it into my hand) Adjustable thickness of the top/bottom/sides On top of all that, what I wanted for my own personal storage needs was a version with multiple cylindrical compartments within the same container. This is the biggest change in the design. With the new customizations, there are three different options available: - A single compartment, much like the original design; - Up to 8 additional compartments around the outside of the container. The diameter of the outer compartments can be different than the central one. The central compartment can be enable or disabled; - Up to 9 identical compartments, arranged for optimal density (For instance, choosing 2-6 compartments will arrange them all on the outer edge without a middle compartment, whereas choosing 7-9 will include a middle compartment to minimize the total radius. I also wanted to learn and practice as much as I could with OpenSCAD code, so I've re-written most of the code with code development in mind. I made an effort to use indentation for nested lines whenever possible, avoid hard-coding any dimensions aside from tolerances, and altered some variable names to make better sense to the reader. I don't know much about standard practices for this language, so I leaned pretty heavily on my knowledge of python and javascript to get me by. Please let me know if anyone has any tips or suggestions for me to improve.
