Knowlton Church stands as a crumbling testament to its forgotten past, situated in the heart of Church Henge. Its earliest remnants date back to the 12th century, comprising the chancel and nave that still bear witness to history. Over the centuries, additions and alterations were made, including those from the 15th and 18th centuries. Despite being in use as late as 1550, the church's decline eventually led to calls for its demolition in 1659. However, fate intervened, and a new chapter began with the construction of a north aisle in 1730. But this revival was short-lived, and by the later part of the 18th century, the roof had given way, leaving the church to stand abandoned. Meanwhile, a nearby Victorian-built church at Woodlands proudly boasts a 12th-century circular stone font that originally hailed from Knowlton Church.
