Knossos is the largest Bronze Age archaeological site on the island of Crete, in the Mediterranean, and has been called Europe's oldest city. Settled as early as the Neolithic period, the name Knossos survives from ancient Greek references to the major city of Crete. The palace of Knossos eventually became the ceremonial and political centre of the Minoan civilization and culture. It was abandoned around 1380–1100 BC, but the area was somewhat used throughout the Hellenistic and Roman periods. The section of the palace depicted in this model, known as the North Portico, is a popular one, reconstructed to give an idea of what the palace looked like. However, the accuracy of this depiction is disputed, because the palace was rebuilt in many different styles as centries went on, the original Minoan features now mostly gone. Some of the dstinct features believed to be typical Minoan are the cypress columns, plastered and painted red, as well as a fresco showing a bull and olive trees. The Minoan civilization is known from the myth of the Labrynth and Minotaur, as well as King Minos (from Wikipedia).  MiniWorld3D is excited to bring this model to life as a homage to all people of Greece.
